Fertility Treatment

ArkLaTex Fertility Treatment Gives You the Power to Overcome

Fertility treatment options renew hope for couples trying to get pregnant despite underlying causes of infertility. A fertility specialist gets to the root of the problem, diagnosing then designing individualized fertility treatment plans most likely to result in a pregnancy.

ArkLaTex Fertility and Reproductive Medicine provides comprehensive fertility treatment services to couples in North Louisiana, Shreveport and surrounding communities.

Transitioning to Fertility Treatment: From Basic Fertility Care to IUI and IVF

Months of trying to conceive on your own have led you to a fertility specialist at ArkLaTex Fertility. You can feel confident in your decision to seek specialized fertility treatment with Dr. David T. Vandermolen, as statistics show that 80 percent of those that partner with a reproductive endocrinologist (fertility specialist) will eventually get pregnant.

Benefits of Fertility Surgery at ArkLaTex Fertility

Fertility surgery, often performed as minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, can correct structural problems causing infertility.

Certain diagnostic tools can also prove effective in resolving infertility. Fertility surgery to examine the uterine cavity for tubal abnormalities and endometriosis, for example, has been shown to increase the odds for getting pregnant.

The type of fertility treatment you receive at ArkLaTex Fertility depends on your diagnosis:

  • Half of couples diagnosed with infertility will have female infertility causes.
  • Half of couples will have male infertility causes.
  • Some couples experience a combination of male and female factors, or a diagnosis of unexplained infertility.

Once you know for sure, Dr. Vandermolen will consult with you about initiating fertility treatment.

Ovulation Induction

Fertility medications, including the commonly prescribed and proven drug clomiphene citrate (Clomid), can help regulate or induce ovulation. This first-line fertility treatment may be all you need to conceive a baby.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Next-level care for female infertility may involve artificial insemination (IUI). Dr. Vandermolen will monitor a cycle of ovulation induction, with Clomid and possibly injectable fertility medications, leading up to in-office IUI. Washed and prepared sperm from your partner or donor are transferred from a catheter directly into the uterus in a painless, in-office procedure.

In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

IVF, a time-tested fertility treatment considered an Advanced Reproductive Technology (ART), bypasses many of the causes of male and female infertility: fallopian tube damage, advanced maternal age, premature menopause (when donor eggs are employed), endometriosis, unexplained infertility or male infertility, including sperm disorders.

A cycle of IVF at ArkLaTex Fertility may also involve genetic testing (see below) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in certain cases of male infertility.

ArkLaTex Fertility reports IVF success rates to the CDC/SART. Ask us about comparing IVF success rates, and why ArkLaTex Fertility consistently produces superior results.

Genetic Testing (PGD)

Advances in genetic testing allow couples with a family history of inheritable diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs and sickle cell to avoid passing these devastating conditions to their children. Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is a micromanipulation technique that allows for preventive action to take place prior to transferring embryos in an IVF cycle. PGD also benefits couples with a history of recurrent miscarriage and women of advanced maternal age.
