ArkLaTex Fertility Provides Comprehensive Gynecological Treatments

Dr. David T. Vandermolen and ArkLaTex Fertility and Reproductive Medicine not only specialize in reproductive endocrinology and the treatment of infertility, but their education, training and elevated experience also makes them the go-to experts on gynecological disorders.  Outside of annual OB/GYN check-ups, our patients come to Dr. Vandermolen for help in diagnosing and treating certain gynecological disorders in all stages of life.

Menopause management or hormone replacement therapy uses estrogen alone or estrogen with progestin in a pill or patch form to replace the hormones that a woman's ovaries stop making at the time of menopause. Hormone replacement eases symptoms like hot flashes and vaginal dryness.

Endometriosis is a common, treatable, but incurable, health problem for women.  It occurs when the tissue that lines the uterus grows outside of the uterus on organs and parts of the body like ovaries, fallopian tubes, surface of the uterus and the lining of the pelvic cavity.  Fortunately, there are many treatment options for endometriosis, and the pain and infertility it can cause.  Based on your symptoms, age, and desire to have children, Dr. Vandermolen can prescribe the best option for you.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects as many as 5 million women in the United States. The main cause of this disorder is a hormonal imbalance, which causes absent or abnormal menstruation, infertility, excessive hair growth, ovarian cysts and other bothersome symptoms.

Treatments can include simple lifestyle modifications or medications like birth control pills, ovulation stimulating fertility medications and anti-androgens to reduce hair growth and clear acne.

Abnormal Menstruation can come in the form of heavy bleeding (menorrhagia), absence of menstruation (amenorrhea), infrequent periods (oligmenorrhea) or menstruation that is painful (dysmenorrhea).  Dr. Vandermolen can diagnose causes of abnormal menstruation and help regulate and treat menstrual disorders for his all his patients, from puberty to menopause.

Abnormal Hair Growth (hirsutism) in women is harmless and is usually caused by high levels of the male hormone testosterone as a result of hormone conditions like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) or Hyperthecosis.  Many women seek treatment options beyond shaving, waxing or electrolysis to slow or rid themselves of unwanted hair growth on the face, chest, abdomen or back to improve their appearance.  Dr. Vandermolen can often treat this condition with birth control pills or anti-androgen medications like spironolactone.
